SOCARs twofold increase of gas supply to Georgia

According to the data for August 21, SOCAR (the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) transports to Georgia three million cubic meters of gas daily against 1-1.2 million cubic meters according to the data for June 28, a source at SOCAR told Trend on Wednesday.

"The gas supply to Georgia is carried out in accordance with market needs and currently is at a level of three million cubic meters daily," the source noted.

SOCAR supplies its gas to Georgia as part of its activity in the Georgian market on the pipeline connecting areas in the Gazakh region of Azerbaijan. The power of gas flow through this pipeline constitutes around three billion cubic meters of gas a year.

Georgia Gas controls the gas distributing networks covering different regions of Georgia, through SOCAR.

According to the source, the gas supply to Iran under swap operations also continues. Currently this indicator constitutes 1.2 million cubic meters daily.

Azerbaijan and Iran merged the Gazi-Magomed-Astara-Bind-Biand gas pipeline running to a length of 1474.5 kilometres along with 296.5 kilometres in Azerbaijan. This route is the branch of the Gazakh-Astara-Iran pipeline commissioned in 1971. Three compressor stations in Gazi-Magomed, Agdash and Gazakh were built on this road. The diameter of the pipeline is 1200 mm
