Proved oil resources in the Caspian Sea total 48 barrels of oil, gas 8.2 trillion cub.m.

The proved and partially explored oil and natural gas resources in the Caspian Sea total 48 billion barrels and 8.2 trillion cub.m. 75% of oil and 67% of gas fall to the offshore fields, within 160 km away from the coastal line. This forecast was released by the US Department of Energy on Wednesday and the research was devoted to the Caspian energy resources.
According to the estimates of the US Department of Energy, of these resources 6.1 billion barrels of oil(1.6 billion barrels offshore and 4.5 billion barrels onshore) and over 3 trillion cub.m. gas (over 390 billion cub.m. offshore and over 2.6 trillion cub.m. onshore) fall to Russia.
According to the estimates of the US governments experts, in 2012 in average 2.6 million barrels of oil was extracted in the Caspian Sea basin, which makes approximately 3.4% of the world oil production. In 2012 about 35% of Caspian oil was extracted on the offshore fields, specified the US Department of Energy.
