Azerbaijani investors aim to build petrochemical plant in Turkey

Turkey's Van Governor Rahmi Dogan: "The new plant will use modern technologies and help to open more than 100 new jobs."

Azerbaijani investors aim to build a petrochemical plant in Turkeys eastern province of Van, the Turkish Hurriyet newspaper reported on October 7 citing the provinces Governor Rahmi Dogan.

Dogan said that the new plant will use modern technologies and help to open more than 100 new jobs.

He also noted that liquefied natural gas (LNG) and other raw materials for the plant will be delivered from Azerbaijan via the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway.

Earlier, Turkeys Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communication Ahmet Arslan in his exclusive interview with Trend said that the BTK railway together with other railway projects, which are being built, will bring billions of dollars annually for Turkeys logistics sector.

The BTK railway is being constructed on the basis of the Georgian-Azerbaijani-Turkish intergovernmental agreement.

Azerbaijan allocated a loan of $775 million for the construction of the railway's Georgian section. SOFAZ (The State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan) finances the project in accordance with the Azerbaijani president's decree 'On the implementation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project activities', dated Feb. 21, 2007.

The peak capacity of the railway will be 17 million tons of cargo per year. At the initial stage, this figure will be one million passengers and 6.5 million tons of cargo.
