Baku and Kiev want to revive the project of the Odessa-Brody pipeline

One of the topics of the talks of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko in Baku on Thursday was the cooperation in the fuel and energy sector. In particular, Poroshenko raised the question about the use of transit opportunities of Ukraine for delivery of Azerbaijani products. In particular, were discussed specific projects for the access of Azerbaijani investors to the Ukrainian and European fuel market. "We will do everything to facilitate this access," Poroshenko said at a meeting with Aliyev.

At a joint press conference, Aliyev said that the issues of realization of the project "Odessa-Brody" were discussed in detail. "It has been instructed to revive this project, because Azerbaijan supplies to the European market very large volumes of its oil and become a transit country for energy resources in Central Asia. Therefore, the resumption of this project creates a good opportunity," said Aliyev.

In turn, Poroshenko said that Ukraine and Azerbaijan will strengthen cooperation in the framework of international organizations.

"I would be happy to ascertain a community of Kiev and Baku views on topical issues of global and regional agenda. We have agreed to harmonize and coordinate our approaches, to expand cooperation in a multilateral format, taking into account Ukraine's membership in the UN Security Council. Azerbaijan has always actively supported Ukraine and now can rely on support of Ukraine in 2016-2017 during his presidency," Poroshenko said.

The head of Ukraine noted the importance of mutual support of Ukraine and Azerbaijan in the issue of sovereignty and territorial integrity. He thanked President Ilham Aliyev for a clear position in support of the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Ukrainian state. Ukraine, for its part points out the unacceptability of the status quo of Nagorno-Karabakh.

President Aliyev noted that along with the development of trade and economic cooperation, Ukraine and Azerbaijan successfully cooperate within international organizations such as the UN, OSCE, Council of Europe, and stressed that it will continue. He also noted that the establishment of joint industrial complex is not only important for the heavy industry, but also for military-technical cooperation. "There are opportunities for the development of this industry," stated Ilham Aliyev.

During the official visit, Poroshenko was received also by Prime Minister Artur Rasizade. The two sides discussed issues of cooperation in joint projects in energy, transport and agricultural sectors.

Special attention was paid to the issue of transportation of Azerbaijani energy resources on the territory of Ukraine to the EU. The President noted that Ukraine has the appropriate technological capacity for the effective implementation of this project.

The President also proposed to actively use the potential of the Ukrainian companies to implement a number of infrastructure projects in Azerbaijan.

During the meeting Poroshenko and Artur Rasizade confirmed the strong and unequivocal support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and Azerbaijan within its internationally recognized borders.
