Caspian states coordinated some definitions of Caspian status convention

The 45th meeting of the Ad Hoc Workgroup on the Convention on the Caspian Sea Legal Status at the level of littoral states Deputy Foreign Ministers has finished in Moscow.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan reports that negotiations held within the meeting held 8-10 June involved the delegations of Azerbaijan (led by Khalaf Khalafov), Iran (I. Rahimpur), Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan (Z. Amanzholov), Russia (Igor Bratchikov) and Turkmenistan (M. Atadjanov).

The heads of delegations stressed the special importance of the Moscow meeting in the light of the Caspian FMs forthcoming meeting to be held in Kazakhstan, and also focused on the need for early finalization of the Convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea.

In accord with the prior agreement, the meeting participants focused on the issues of regime of navigation and jurisdiction of the coastal states in the Caspian area, the delineation of the bottom for subsoil use. The agreed formulations have been recorded in the Draft Convention.

The delegations appreciated the outcome of the held talks and expressed gratitude to the Russian Federation for the high level of the organized meeting. The next meeting of the Ad Hoc Workgroup will be held in Kazakhstan. The timing of its holding will be agreed through diplomatic channels.
