Top News14.06.2016 17:54 Georgia expects launch gas storage project for Azerbaijani gas in September
The construction of a gas storage facility at the field of Samgori South Dome in Georgia can begin this September. Vice Prime Minister and Energy Minister Kakha Kaladze of Georgia says that the tender winner company to build this facility will be announced in the coming days. The main source of gas for this gas storage is from Azerbaijan. Its estimated capacity is 210-280 million cu m (15% of total annual gas consumption by Georgia). The feasibility study of the construction of this first-in-Georgia gas storage facility was presented by French company Geostock. In Georgian government’s opinion, the construction of the gas storage in the field of Samgori South Dome will help resolve force majeure issues with providing gas and will ease the imbalance between supply and consumption of gas. Kaladzeh reminded that the tender for the construction of the gas storage facility also involves the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR). Earlier SOCAR Energy Georgia’s head Mahir Mammadov informed that SOCAR’s offer concerning the construction of the gas storage facility received the highest rating of the government of Georgia.
