Turkey is not afraid to remain without Russian gas, hoping for help of Azerbaijan and Iran

If Russia stops deliveries of natural gas to Turkey, Turkey will increase gas purchases from Azerbaijan and Iran.

Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Simsek, quoted by Turkish TV channel TRT Haber, has stated that Turkey could also increase purchases of liquefied gas (if necessary)".

It should be noted that Turkey has agreements with Algeria and Nigeria for supply of 4.4 bn cu m and 1.2 bn cu m of liquefied gas a year respectively.

However, Russia is the largest supplier of natural gas to Turkey (half of the total gas import of Turkey).

In accordance with the existing contract between Azerbaijan and Turkey, the annual volume of gas supply for Turkey is envisaged in 6.6 bn cu m (source of gas - Caspian gas condensate field Shah Deniz).

At present, relations between Turkey and Russia escalated after on 24 November the Turkish air force shot down Russian fighter jet SU-24 in its airspace.
