US's UOP becomes a licensor of some plants of Baku Oil Refinery n.a. Heydar Aliyev

American company UOP has become a licensor of a number of new facilities to be built at the Baku Oil Refinery named after Heydar Aliyev, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) reported.

SOCAR and UOP signed a relevant license agreement in Baku on Tuesday. The following projects will be realized on the UOPs license: catalytic cracking plant, naphtha hydrotreating plant, plants on isomerization, oxidation of mercaptans for unsaturated liquefied gas purification, plants on the purification of amine, the oxidation of sulphides. Works should be completed by 2019.

At the signing ceremony SOCAR president Rovnag Abdullayev noted that SOCAR has been cooperating with UOP for a long time. In particular, a catalytic reforming plant was constructed at the refinery on UOP license. Also, this company has prepared a feasibility study of the project of reconstruction of the oil refinery and construction of new oil-gas refining & petrochemical complex.

Construction of a number of plants is being carried out at the SOCAR-owned STAR refinery on the license of the American company.

The reconstruction and upgrade of the Baku refinery aims to increase the capacity of the plant on the primary processing of oil from 6 million up to 7.5 million tons a year and catalytic cracking plant from 2 up to 2.5 million tons a year.

As a result of reconstruction and upgrade of the Heydar Aliyev refinery, the annual volume of production of motor gasoline will increase from 1.3 million up to 2.2 million tons, diesel fuel from 2.3 million up to 2.9 million tons, aviation kerosene from 700,000 up to 1 million tons.
