The European Union is ready to consider the matter of expansion of being created Southern Gas Corridor. The head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan, Malena Mard says that the EU is ready to consider this issue on the condition of non-infringement of the basic principles of the third energy package. "The SGC Project designed for delivery of 10 bn cu m of gas a year to Europe, starting from 2020, conforms to the rules of the third EU energy package. At the next stage we’ll support the expansion of its capacity, and in this regard we will find the possible ways of resolving technical issues through the prism of the third energy package of the EU," Ms. Mard said. She stressed that SGC is one of the priority projects for the EU, providing gas transportation from the Caspian region through Georgia and Turkey to European countries. "This corridor is important for the beign created EU Energy Union. Implementation of Trans Caspian Gas Pipeline (TCGP) will also allow expanding the SGC capabilities," she added. According to Ms. Mard, the EU will continue to promote to TCGP project multilateral consultations. As a whole, she called Azerbaijan a reliable partner on energy issues.
