In search of new trends in the development of the oil and gas market

The 19th International Caspian Oil & Gas Conference Incorporating Refining and Petrochemicals started today at the Hilton Baku. This event is an important part of the business programme at Caspian Oil and Gas 2012. Five hundred and fifty accredited delegates high-ranking representatives from several countries as well as major players of the worlds oil and gas industry - are participating in this conference and this highlights the growing interest in the event.

The first day of the conference opened with a plenary session on The Golden Age of the Caspian region. Head of the Administration of the Ministry of Industry and Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Rasim Mammadov, made a respectful speech to the delegates. In addition, the Senior Advisor to the Special Ambassador of the U.S. State Department on Energy Affairs in Eurasia, Mr Daniel D. Stain, also made a speech on the topic of A look at Eurasian energy from Washington. This was followed by a speech from Roland Kobia, Ambassador, Head of the European Union Delegation to Azerbaijan.

The topics of the conference cover the new trends in development in the oil and gas market; the supply diversification of energy in Eurasia (including the role of the Caspian region); balancing the geopolitical interests of the country acting as manufacturers, transporters and consumers; ensuring the supply to consuming countries, and modern technologies in the oil and gas sector, including in refining and petrochemicals; the development of petrochemical projects; the establishment of the largest complex for oil and gas refining and petrochemicals in Azerbaijan; the main projects in the field of exploration and production; the development strategy for the nations oil and gas industry; cooperation between Eurasia and Azerbaijan in the development of alternative and renewable power sources, and short and long-term prospects for the development of solar and wind energy; current projects in Azerbaijan related to alternative energy; and efficient, safe and ecologically clean energy solutions.

The Vice President of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), Khoshbakht Yusifzade, also made a speech on behalf of the president of SOCAR Rovnag Abdullayev. Talks from the following respected delegates are planned for the next two days of the conference: Executive Vice President of Statoil Mr Piter Mellbay; Regional Manager of the Caspian Region for OMV Mr Wolfgang Svorerr; Deputy General Manager of Botash Mr Savash; Deputy Chairman of Turkmennebit Mr Khidirberdi Mamednazarov; and Director General of the Department for Europe, America and the Caspian region at the Oil Ministry of Iran Islamic Republic Mr Khussein Esmazili. Other leaders from the worlds major oil and gas companies, including BP, RWE, Statoil, TPAO, OMV, IGI-Poseidon S.A., EDISON S.p.A. and TAP will also be giving speeches.

The 19th International Caspian Oil & Gas Exhibition and Conference Incorporating Refining and Petrochemicals will continue tomorrow.
