Caspian Oil and Gas 2015: Postshow Release

Caspian Oil and Gas 2015, the 22nd International Exhibition and Conference, the largest event in the energy sector in the Caspian Region, took place from 2 - 5 June at Baku Expo Center. For 22 years, the exhibition and conference have been identifying the main trends in the regionís oil and gas industry. Each year, the exhibition and conference bring together senior directors to discuss key oil and gas projects in the Caspian region. The Ministry for Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) show invaluable support for Caspian Oil and Gas. For 10 years, Caspian Oil and Gas has been recognised by UFI, the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry. Receiving the UFI Approved Event mark demonstrates the exhibitionís compliance with international standards.

The participation of the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, in the official opening ceremony reinforced the exhibitionís high status. This year he sent a welcome letter addressed to exhibitors, participants and visitors of the exhibition and conference. In his annual speech at the opening ceremony, the President highlighted the significance of the oil and gas industry, modern contracts in the 21st century and the implementation of global industry projects. The Head of State expressed his confidence that Caspian Oil and Gas would take place at a high level, and partnerships with international companies would continue. The President wished exhibitors well and expressed his gratitude to the organisers for their hard work on the exhibition.

Other high ranking guests also took part in the opening ceremony including Alan Yarrow, Lord Mayor of London, who read a welcome letter from British Prime Minister David Cameron; Janusz Piechociński, Deputy Prime Minister of Poland, and Adil Abdulmahdi Hassan Shuber, Iraqi Oil Minister. Lord Mayor of London, Alan Yarrow, commented, ďI want to emphasise again that links between Azerbaijan and the UK are very important, especially regarding energy. I believe that the exhibition creates many opportunities for us to further strengthen these relations.Ē

I hope that the forthcoming discussions at the conference will provide us with new and important professional knowledge, and will contribute to strengthening Azerbaijanís position as a regional centre for exchanging knowledge and experience between government bodies and companies.Ē

The collection marked 136 years of the work of the Nobel brothersí oil company in Azerbaijan and was initiated by the organisers of Caspian Oil and Gas, Iteca Caspian. The Nobel Brothers and Baku Oil. The Prize. was intended to inform visitors of the history of oil production and the work of the first oil workers, and was a reminder of the historic role and significance of the activities of the Nobel brothers in Azerbaijan for both the surrounding region and the development of global oil production.

This year, the exhibition featured 315 companies from 27 countries, 80% of which were world-renowned companies. China, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Poland, Russia, Turkey the all held national pavilions. 70% of all exhibitors were international and 10% were newcomers, including those from Azerbaijan, Malaysia, the Czech Republic and other countries. The Czech national stand and Italian National group exhibited for the first time.

The eventís status was reaffirmed by its line-up of leading Azerbaijani companies and leaders in the oil and gas industry sponsoring the event. Caspian Oil and Gas 2015ís General Sponsor was SOCAR, the Gold Sponsors were BP and Baker Hughes, and the Silver Sponsor was Türkiye Petrolleri. This year, both regular and new exhibitors presented their innovations in oil production, IT equipment for the oil and gas industry, technology for cleaning wells after drilling, and much more.

The exhibition was very successful and presented new and interesting products and services. 90% of visitors were oil and gas industry specialists. Important meetings and talks were held on day one. The fact that 50% of exhibitors booked their stands for Caspian Oil and Gas 2016, which will take place from 7-10 June at Baku Expo Centre, demonstrates the success of this yearís exhibition.

An important part of the exhibition and its business programme was the international Caspian Oil and Gas conference, which took place from 3-4 June at the JW Marriott Absheron Baku Hotel. More than 500 delegates from 30 countries participated in the conference. †The programme included 50 presentations from government bodies, leading experts in the oil and gas industry, and directors of major oil and gas companies from across the world. Speakers included Natig Aliyev, Minister of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan; Rovnag Abdullayev, President of SOCAR; Janusz Piechociński, Deputy Prime Minister of Poland; Gordon Birrell, Regional President Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, BP; Petyo Ivanov, Executive Director of Bulgargaz.

A key issue of the conference was energy security for both the Caspian Region and a significant part of the European continent. Other discussion topics included expanding international cooperation in implementing oil and gas projects, financing and ensuring the sustainable development of major oil and gas projects, diversifying the transportation of oil and gas from the Caspian Region, expanding the energy resource base and opening new opportunities, ensuring environmental security in the Caspian Region, and reviewing the petrochemical activities and oil refining in Azerbaijan and the prospects for development. Issues of environmentalism and new sources of energy were also covered.

Participants of the conference concentrated on pipeline projects for exporting Azerbaijani gas, inevitably, partnerships in these projects are vital. According to the Elshad Nassirov, Vice President of Investments at SOCAR, Azerbaijan is counting on EU support in implementing the Southern Gas Corridor project, especially as European customers have a direct interest in it. At the conference, this was given a lot of attention as the EU is fundamentally tied to a trouble-free start to the Southern Gas Corridor project. The construction of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline is currently meeting its deadlines, and according to Ian Bradshaw, Managing Director of Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), gas will reach Europe by 2020. TAP is expected to present its main contracts and contacts for the project by the end of 2015.
